West End Community Center Celebrates Sixth Annual West End Children's Festival

The West End Community Center is proud to celebrate its 6th Annual West End Children's Festival and to continue with the theme of International Flavor. In the 19th and mid- 20th centuries, people immigrated to the West End from Greece, Ireland, Russia, and several other diverse countries. The West End Museum has an exhibit that even displays these historical and cultural aspects of the West End neighborhood. While the West End Community Center holds numerous events that bring the entire Boston neighborhood together, the West End Children's Festival seems to be the most popular among local families. This year the Children's Festival will have food, performances, and attractions that will represent the diversity and international flavor of the entire community. Tatiana Mercado and Sunil Patel are Co-Directors of this year's festival and are very excited for the event.

Mercado quotes, "I'm happy that we are continuing with the theme of International Flavor. We are staying true to representing the incredible diversity of this neighborhood and welcoming back some great sponsors and vendors from last year. But we also plan on adding an element of freshness with some new attractions, food, and vendors that highlight many more cultures. We hope to have an even better festival this year and welcome new and returning visitors from across the Boston area. Mercado strongly emphasizes the importance of diversity and learning about new cultures and appreciates how the West End neighborhood celebrates that concept with the West End Children's Festival. The West End Community Center is anticipating having a few thousands visitors for the event and will have numerous games, activities, and attractions that will entertain and bring a variety of people together. Members of the community will have the opportunity to share their cultural backgrounds and celebrate their heritage together at this free event.

The festival is going to take place on August 20, 2011 from 12:00-4:00 PM on Thoreau Path. If you are interested in volunteering for the event, please contact Festival Volunteer Coordinator, Amy Christenson, at ac@westendcommunitycenter.com For more information please visit http://www.westendchildrensfestival.org/ or call the West End Community Center at 617-670-1900.
